What is the retention policy of the BS Bio program?

Ans: A BS Biology student will be dismissed from the program if failed from the following subjects:

  • BIO 15 twice or CHEM 21 and/or CHEM 22 twice.
  • BIO 20 or BIO 30 twice and CHEM 21 and/or CHEM 22 twice.
How do I apply for a thesis adviser?

Ans: There are two types of adviser, one is a registration adviser where a faculty is assigned by the Chair for registration matters only. However, beginning your Junior Year, you are expected to find a thesis adviser by approaching the faculty based on his/her specialization for the topic of your interest. During the conduct of the thesis, he/she will approve of all the documents until you finish it for your graduation. The thesis adviser will also serve as your registration adviser where a Plan of Study is a requirement. 

Are there service laboratories in DBSES?

Ans: No, the laboratories of the Department are for instructional use only. However, the Philippine Genome Center Mindanao can cater omics laboratory services.

How do I change my thesis adviser? Panel member?

Ans: The student shall fill out a ‘Change of Adviser’ form or ‘Change of Panel Member’ form to be signed by the concerned faculty for submission to the Office of the College Secretary for recording purposes

Does the BS Biology program have a major or minor?

Ans: No, but the student will take qualified electives according to his/her field of interest.
